Symphonic WINDS

The Southwood Symphonic Winds are dedicated to broadening the artistic level and interests of the ensemble members through the performance of challenging wind literature. The ensemble's repertoire is drawn from traditional and innovative compositions, original works for band, and symphonic transcriptions. Members are placed in the ensemble by the conductor, as they are the school’s premier instrumental ensemble.

The Southwood Jazz Ensemble is a"big band” that performs the contemporary jazz, as standards made famous by Jazz greats . An exciting part of playing in the Jazz Ensemble is the variety of unique places and “gigs” students get to do. This ensemble also explores students’ vocal talents as we usually have several students who get side training from the director the lead vocal numbers.

The Pep Band is another one of our award-winning groups that focuses on creative, yet challenging works of music. This band has received countless awards on the district, state, and national levels.
